Dr. Dan McConkie of Mountain Vista Dental Care specializes in endodontics, which is the branch of dentistry that deals with the pulp, tissue, nerves, and arterioles that are located within the complex structures inside your tooth.
In the past, a tooth with a diseased nerve would be removed immediately, but with the care of an endodontist, the outer shell of your tooth can be saved with a root canal and the permanent placement of a crown.

Endodontic Treatment and Repair
Endodontic treatment or root canal therapy is performed to help save the healthy part of your tooth. Root canal therapy can take anywhere from 1 to 3 visits and will be combined with a complete set of X-Rays for a proper exam.
After you have received a local anesthetic, a hole will be created on the surface of your tooth and the pulp will be completely removed. When the pulp is removed, a biocompatible material known as Gutta-Percha is placed inside the hole that was created and cement is applied to the top of your tooth to completely seal off the root canal.
During your final endodontic treatment, Dr. McConkie will place a permanent crown on the treated tooth for a complete tooth restoration.
